Destination: Osaka

My wife and I got married in November 2016 in a wonderfully lavish ceremony that saw family and friends from all over the world journey to Hong Kong. Unfortunately we weren't able to immediately jet off on our honeymoon as teachers have very fixed (but very generous) holidays, so we had to delay it until July of this year.

We decided on Osaka and Kyoto because we have both been massive fans of Japan, Japanese food, and culture since we were kids and were desperate for a chance to indulge ourselves. We had been to Tokyo before, briefly: we had a 20 hour layover on the way to America to have Christmas with my family. We don’t really count this though as all we got to see was the inside of a shopping mall. This time around we were determined to get out and explore.

My fantastic wife planned our whole itinerary. First, we would spend four days in Kyoto relaxing, exploring and enjoying ourselves before heading to Osaka for another four days and doing some serious shopping.

Throughout our adventure we were consistently delighted by the dedication to aesthetics: wherever we went the attention to detail that went into a simple meal or the layout of a restaurant was staggering. We were captivated by exquisite gardens and shrines, and returned to Hong Kong thoroughly refreshed, but eager to return.
